I praise You, Queen of the world Tripura Sundari! I praise the One who is the order of dharma. The One who is beautiful in the three worlds. The One who shines with the light of the rising sun. The One who is vitality. The One who is the earth itself, fertility and growth. The One who is the Mother and nurser of the world. The One who is fruitfulness and mercifulness. I meditate on Goddess Tripura Sundari who holds a noose, a spear, arrows and a bow in her hands. She sits on the throne like a queen, adorned with jewels. A crescent moon adorns her forehead and her smile dazzles even Shiva himself and Kama, the god of love. She sits on a lotus that grows out of Shiva's navel. She is worshiped by sages and celestial nymphs. Her body is like pure crystal. She wears a tiger skin and adorns a garland of snakes around her neck. She holds a trident and a drum. She is dressed in flowers and ashes.

Mahavidyas represent transcendental knowledge and powers. The ten Mahavidyas are the ten degrees of transcendental cognition. They are the sources of all that is to be known. Mahadevi, the great Goddess, also called Maya, causes captivity, leads astray in ignorance, this is called avidya. But it is also liberating. The ten Mahavidyas are the ten forms in which the Goddess brings enlightenment and liberating knowledge called vidya.
